Misconception.

As what I’ve previously posted a few days ago, I mentioned that I’m having my last practicum at Love Radio 90.7. I’ve just reported for two days and im already having a good time. actually, it wasn’t my first option to have practicum in that station. I’ve opted for high end stations such as magic 89.9, wave 89.1 or jam 88.3, coz they are what we called the popular ones. The stations which plays our kind of music unlike love who plays the so-so songs or playing songs of unknown artists and which we often labeled as cheap.

But today my perspective regarding the station has changed. not because im thankful that they accepted me for practicum but for the things I’ve learned today. they admit that their target market is the what we called “masa” or the mass so the speak. Drivers, vendors, people eating carinderias are mostly their listeners. But would you believe that according to a survey certain portions of the upper classes such as classes A and B listen to the station. I don’t know what agency did the survey but I can attest that the results aren’t fabricated.

First, would you believe that they even play “the reason” by hoobastank in the station. It’s included in their playlist. Tell me, isn’t it that most of us in the middle class, upper class love that song. What’s their reason to play that if their targeting the masses? Its an english song and most people in their sector only has a little knowledge in the language so why would they love it? the answer is simple..it only proves that their listeners has multiplied. Now, its not only the masa who listens to them but its safe to say that their listeners are from all walks of life regardless of their social class.

Second, according to the survey that most motorists (not only drivers of public utility vehicles but private vehicles as well) tune in to love radio. I believed that coz my uncle, a professional, always listen to love radio whenever im in his car. Im quite fascinated coz before I really don’t give a damn about that station, coz just as what I’ve said I find them cheap and I don’t listen to them.

Thirdly, I have a friend who’s a student dj at 97.1 LSFM and she told me that she praises what Love Radio has done. FYI Love Radio is as of the moment the number 1 station in our country today. can’t believe it? believe, for its true. Have an observation regarding radio stations. Compare which stations has the most commercials. The radio with the most commercials only means they have a huge number of listeners. Clients advertise their products on these stations because they can sell more, their target market is there, so why would they settle for a station that caters only to a specific audience? Let’s admit it, a huge portion of our society belongs to the lower class.

Im not posting because I want you to listen to the station. I, myself wouldn’t be an avid listener. I would still listen to stations that plays songs that I like. may be I’ll be listening every now and then to the station but what im just saying that after what I’ve learned I would no longer look down on the station or for any station for that matter. There’s no point in discriminating. Each person has his or her own music preference. We have our own freedom to listen to want we want to. Lets not brand people cheap because of what they listen to, their appearance, or whatever. Hey, isn’t it that in the eyes of God we’re all created equal?

School Is COOL.

When I went to school today, all of my professors we’re present. I thought it would just be a normal day with lectures and stuff. indeed it is. I don’t know but I think im not into my usual self coz I had a great time in all of my subjects namely Asian Civilazation, Ethics of Mass Media and Elementary Spanish. From what happened today, I have a strong feeling that this will be an interesting semester.

On a sadder note….

Just moments ago, my auntie told me that the cousin of my lola died today of a heart attack. though im not close to her but she is to our family. She was always the one who first helps out whenever there is family gathering going on. even if I havent had the chance to know her more, im going to miss her for sure...
